Bible Verses for Hard Times

Life is like a roller coaster ride, you never know when or where the next turn lies. During harrowing times in life, one's spirit gets completely crushed. In the midst of all that pain, we need to cling to the promises of God. He will not let us go through more than we can bear. Here are some promises and encouraging verses to help you through such times.

Psalms 34: 17-19

"The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken."

Isaiah 63:9

"In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old."

Isaiah 43: 1-3

"But now, this is what the LORD says - he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. ...
... When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."

Hebrews 4:14-16

"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin. ...
... Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

2 Corinthians 12: 9-10

"But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
When you are hurting turn to the book of psalms. The words of this amazing book will act like balm to the soul. The psalmist has gone through similar times and has openly voiced out his sorrow and heart's condition before God.
His honesty sometimes leaves us stupefied, however, you will find how the psalmist like us was a person going through tough times and how he leans on God for strength and support.
