The Holy Bible is the record of all the events that took place in and outside Israel before Jesus and after him. Christianity is a religion that was founded only after Jesus Christ preached and after his death, his followers spread it across the world. Before this Judaism was one of the most dominated religion and many nations followed it.
However, this substantial change of beliefs from Judaism to Christianity is recorded in the Holy Bible in the form of books, which were written by various authors over a long period.
Because of the different arrays of Christianity like Judaism and the Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Protestants, Slavonic Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, Georgian, Syriac and Ethiopian which existed over this period of time, there are also various versions of these books in the Bible.

List of Books in the Bible

There are two sections in which the Bible is divided according to the teachings of God and according to the time lines of history. These are the "Old Testament", and the "New Testament", each of which includes a certain number of books in the Bible. There are totally 66 books of the Bible in order used today in both these sections.
The Old Testament was written before the birth of Christ and the New Testament starts with his birth, by various authors, under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, these two sections cover a wide range of history and have information about what was the state of spirituality in these two time lines.
It has been found that there are some books which were written in the Bibles used by the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christians, but not included in any of the Testaments. According to the facts on the Bible, these are called the "The books of the Apocrypha" and are also compiled further for information purpose.

How Many Books are in the Old Testament

We start with the Old Testament books. The books are called the "Hebrew Scriptures" and are 39 in number. Though there are many variations in the number and the names of the books according to different genres of Christianity, the books as per the list here is of the common ones used in the King James Version.

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi.

How Many Books are in the New Testament

The second section of the order of books in the Bible is the New Testament, which was written during the time of Jesus Christ's birth and continued after his death. There are 27 books in this section, that include Bible verses and their teachings differ slightly from the Old Testament's.
Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, I Corinthians, II Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, I Thessalonians, II Thessalonians, I Timothy, II Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, I Peter, II Peter, I John, II John, III John, Jude, Revelation.
