Meditating On God's Word

Claudia Miclaus
The Word Of God comes as a guidance for a life as planned by God. Just let it sink deep within you, so that it nourishes your soul.
It is tremendously important to meditate on God's word, to really let it sink in our hearts, 'watering' it every day like farmers water seeds and wait for the plant to grow. The Bible says that God's word is alive and will not return without fruit!
However the 'soils' of hearts can differ. God says that Satan will always try to steal the seed of the Word of God whenever he has the chance to. See what Jesus Christ, the Son of God has to say about this in the parable of the sower.
"When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy....
...But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful....
...But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown." Mathew 13:18-23
It looks like the seed of the Word of God will only produce fruit when we really understand it; when we realize who God is, what great plans He has for us, and that He truly loves us. He is almighty, righteous and wise, we no longer want to turn to other resources when we need help because we believe what He says.
Believing the word of God is a powerful weapon, it is the sword of the Spirit. You don't believe the Bible, you don't have a weapon and then how can we say: "Why Lord, Why?"
In a war a weapon is not optional! However, 'the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds'. 2 Corinthians 10:4
"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace....
...In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:13-17
Gathering the word of God in your heart will cause you multiple benefits other than spiritual protection; it will bring joy in your heart, light to your eyes, and good physical health too.
"The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes." Ps 19:8

"My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words ... for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body." Proverbs 4:22
Letting the seed of the Word of God bring its fruit inside is the only way for a durable change in our lives. As Christians, we always want to do more and better, but if we try through our own efforts living up to God's standards we'll surely fail.
That's why exposing ourselves to the Bible and letting the Seed of the Word bring forth fruit inside of us is all we have to do. We can force ourselves to fake the real fruit for a while, but when tribulation comes, human efforts are not enough to help us stand. God's word is!
"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12
Therefore, let the word of God inside your mind, think about it, 'chew' it, understand it, let it penetrate in your heart and it will bring fruit of itself without using any effort from you.
Your effort is basically the fact that you expose yourself to the Bible understanding and meditating on it, letting it deepen its roots inside. Do that every time you have the chance.
"Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." Joshua 1:8
