Three Ways to Help You in Your New Journey

Craig Middleton
As a species, humans have long been questioning the world around us, letting the wonders of the universe manifest themselves to us in strange and mysterious ways while trying our best to come to terms with and understand our place in it. Are you on a new spiritual path? If so, you are probably riddled with questions and long for answers.
While still in the beginning stages of this amazing new quest, remember to take care of yourself and your mental health in its process.

Let Go of Guilt

Growing up in a household that practices a certain faith or religion has an impact on a person, whether it's a great influence for a healthy lifestyle or a terrified childhood full of fear mongering.
Deciding to branch out from that faith and seek answers elsewhere can be a scary feeling because you're reaching into unfamiliar territory, perhaps going against everything that you were raised to believe. Although it's exciting, it can leave a heavy burden of guilt on your soul.
Know that it's all right to seek the truth in however it speaks to you. Questioning is the first step in understanding, and let this guilt-free search be your first and most essential step to your new understanding. It is a crooked line indeed, and there is more than one answer.

Find a Resource to Help Guide You

Whether you need another opinion on how to stimulate your third eye or simply want to discuss the holy texts that you've been reading, it's a great idea to have another person that you can bounce ideas off of and have conversations with.
Who do you know that can act as a resource and spiritual mentor as you move forward with your journey? Some people that you might look to could be religious leaders, counselors, etc.

When you were in school it was easier to ask the teacher for help if you didn't understand something, but ultimately it was up to you to learn it and make it stick. The same concept exists when you're looking to someone as a resource: Remember that they can only take you so far before you decide that you believe or disbelieve something.

Learn to Meditate

Meditation is a universal way for the human psyche to calm itself down. It exists in every culture, though it might be called prayer or self-reflection in other religions. There is absolutely nothing special that you need to purchase or do to achieve a state of meditation; it's simply a way for you to be alone with yourself and whatever Spirit you feel.
If you have no idea how to even begin, here are a few steps for first-timers:

Tip 1

Find a comfortable, quiet place. You don't have to sit on a stool with your legs crossed if that's uncomfortable to you; lying down or sitting up, it's your choice.

Tip 2

Close your eyes and breathe. Don't labor your breathing or try and control it, simply let it be as natural as possible.

Tip 3

Focus on yourself, on your body. Take notice of the way that your chest expands and the way your lungs fill up with clean, fresh air. From there, let yourself do this for longer periods each time.
A relaxed state of mind is much healthier for the brain and body. Learning the fine art of meditation can help you feel better about yourself and your doubts as you navigate through your journey.
No matter where your spiritual journey takes you, there will always be questions. It's okay not to know everything and to learn as you go, but knowing how to handle your mental health in the process is part of the journey too.
